1955 Singer 222K |
It is an adorable machine. I imagine that it has some advantages over the 221. But I prefer bigger free arms for my sewing. There are plenty of better machines for the money (a Bernina comes to mind) so, now that I have seen one, had my fling and gotten over it, I think I will save my pennies for a Bernina 730 or 830. If I am going to have an expensive free arm (aside from the computerized Husqvarna I own) I want a Bernina.
This is one CUTE machine!
ReplyDeleteI hope I am not responsible for feeding your SMAD as regards early Bernina Thirty-somethings....
Posting from my Samsung phone, we'll see if this works!
Yes it did work!!! And no, I must accept responsibility for my own desires.......someday I will have a Bernina
DeleteHmmm.....wanna trade?
ReplyDeleteNot mine to trade. We are servicing it for someone.....
DeleteI picked up a Singer 306 in a cabinet for $25 at a local thrift store and asked if they had anything else. The manager's wife had a Bernina 830 Record she brought in for me to look at (I cleaned it up and oiled to perfection for her). Three weeks later she called me after finding out that her daughter wanted a new plastic machine and offered it to me for $225. I received the machine with all the original accessories in the red box, manual, a walking foot as well as a table. I tried to offer more but she said it was in goods hands now.
ReplyDeleteMy OSMG was astounded and looked over my work with approval.
Now to locate an old Bernina 125 (I have a 221 that came to me abused that I rebuilt).
Thanks so much for your blog. Its one of life's little pleasures.
You are one lucky unknown. One day a Bernina will come my way too.....
DeleteHOLY MACKRELE! have you seen the prices of these on eBay?!
ReplyDeleteWas this a Singer sold only in Europe?
Like I said, if I am going to spend that kind of cash, I want a Bernina.
DeleteI don't know if these were only sold in Europe. VintageSingers will know
