Rats

We have critters in the house.  Mice and something larger.  Steven trapped a rat in late November.   A nice, healthy, country rat.  The problem with rats, country or not, is that they come in packs.  We suspect there is at least one more.  We hear it at night sometimes.  Nothing in the trap this morning.  I think my next dog with be a Rat Terrier or a Jack Russel or a Dachsund.  Something that is bred to hunt and kill vermin.  Standard Poodles are retrievers. They do get very aroused, none the less, when the critter is skittering around.

    1. Well, no noise last night and no rat in the trap today. Maybe she/he figured out that we mean business!!

  2. I had a non-denominational mid-size dog, a chihuahua-min-pin mix, and a cat who is an excellent vole, snake, bunny and mole hunter, and none of them was able to catch the mouse in my kitchen, although they all knew it was there, and wanted mightily to vanquish it.

My solution was glue boards; not as humane as I would have liked, but effective.

    1. We use snap traps. We like to believe that they die instantly while nibbling on peanut butter, liver treats and cheese. I am remorseless. They can do so much damage to a fabric stash or some already made drawstring bags.

  3. We brought in a bushel of apples from our shop and I'm thinking we brought in a small vole or rat... bold as could be one evening I was watching t.v. and the little varmint made a dash for the kitchen from behind the t.v.! Yuck!!!! We got bait after the traps didnt work! The kind that dehydrate them... hey I will be as humane as can be.... when they are outside!!! Really though, we did try quite a while with traps and finally after hearing it under the dishwasher early mornings and late evenings... I had had it! No sounds now for over a month. Hopefully we had gotten rid of any and all critters... ahem, after that the apples were only brought in a little at a time and I sorted them carefully first! LoL...
