No room at the shelter

Kitty is a young adult,  feline leukemia negative and weighs all of 4 pounds 3 ounces. She has an appointment in three weeks for spaying.  She was pretty calm at the vet. I stopped in at the Susquehanna Animal Shelter to see if they had room for her.  Nope.  She matches none of the lost kitty posts.  It looks as if I am committed to her for the next three weeks.

She has a new name: Lola.  As in the Kinks from 1970.  I didn't really like Wee Tank.  I thought about Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side,  Holly, but it didn't sit well either.  So, Lola it is.  For now.

She is a nice kitty.  She sat curled up in my lap in the exam room as two dogs sparred just on the other side of the door in the waiting room.  It would be easier if she didn't have a piece of my heart already.  Dang.

  1. Since she has a piece of your heart, maybe she's Janis.

    1. Good one.....but, ah no. My son has a family member with that name and we try to avoid naming pets likewise.

  2. With her gender ambiguity upon first meeting, Lola seems like a great name!

  3. "Whatever Lola wants
    Lola gets,
    Take off your coat
Don't you know you can't win?
You're no exception to the rule,
I'm irresistible, you fool, give in!...Give in!...Give in!"

    ...Damn Yankees

  4. Ah, I enjoy your name thought process. You could have snuck Sally through the alley. Virtually all of our pets have come to us already named. Our Miss Ida is leukemia positive, so she is an only cat and the sweetie of my heart. And sitting on my wrists as I type this. Such an only child.

  5. Give up, she is yours and you know it, when a cat attaches there is no giving it away! Fess up you love her already. That is a good thing.

    1. Well, you know, cats do love their asses. We know this because they have a habit of sticking them in your face. Just the same, her energy has been an interesting addition to the mix. The dogs seem to be settling in. So far......

  8. I have a vet daughter married to a vet who has somehow squirrelled a one eyed kitty from vet school days and two yeara ago her own two cats when they relocated to take over a practice and had to take a rental. They really had to negotiate to take their two little dogs no way would their landlord allow the kitties one of which was feral and both outsiders in our mild climate. They had to become house kitties here as one of my rescue pair hunts and would fear if they ran from him. If the big rescue dogs come inside they are crate trained. I have to keep a close eye when they come in and out or are out of the crate. I put up a baby gate but darn cats jump over and annoy them.
The hunter mix does very bad things to small prey but has been very good about ignoring them. It is a real pain to separate the twain when the cats are cats and uncooperative about doing their part. I have become attached to the felines and not sure I am going to let them go to the new place with my daughter. They are very happy with me waiting on them and keeping 3 litter boxes very clean. They allow me to serve them at all times and scratch everything as I am too wimpy to declaw. I am keeping a very old leather type sofa set in my den to prevent them destroying a new set. They ignore the microfiber furniture in the living room thankfully. I won't be buying leather as long as they are hanging out. My décor has become scratching posts and cat nip toys and a layer of fur. They do get into your heart and you are so stuck. Lol!
