The triumph of Hope over Experience

It takes two hours.  That's all I have to say.  http://www.allfreesewing.com/Bags-and-Purses/One-Hour-Bag
I followed her directions except that I added the tab closure.  I didn't like the width of her strap so I folded it in half and stitched it together.  But I did that after I finished the bag with her directions.

Next time (if there IS a next time) I will make the strap my usual way; cutting a strip 4 inches wide and folding it in half and then folding the edges together again and stitching.  Makes a strong and pretty strap.

I still prefer the tab closure to just putting the clasp on the lining.

So there.  It is a nice spring bag.  I will use it in April

  1. Really nice bag! Nice call with the changes. I think some metal hardware to attach the straps may even add a little extra design element. I got some cute sew-in labels that say 'This Took Forever'...for those kinds of projects that turn out really great, but don't really want to do again. I put one of those labels in the first bag I ever made. I gave it to my sister, so now every time she uses that bag, it will give her a little giggle :)

  2. Excellent motif placement and the tab is a positive addition as well.

    1. But the strap is MESSY. I might re-do it before April. Then again, maybe not.

  3. If you do another you can make all sorts of variations and improve on anything you don't like after you carry it a bit. I like your bag and fabric choice for this one. I joined that site but if wants to install another pdf-doc thing when I go to download so I assume it is ok to to that. It looked as if there were good projects on there.

  4. I like this bag and the ones on the earlier post. I always laugh at the "one-hour" statements. I figure that's how long it takes after you have made several of them and can start cranking them out. I also figure the my own personal multiplier is between 3 and 5, meaning it will take me 3 to 5 times as long as the pattern says. So if it only took you 2 hours, you are doing very well!
