Made in Sweden

I have an electronic machine.  I admit it.  It is a Viking Husqvarna Quilt Designer II.  I used to love it.  Then I learned about vintage sewing machines.  This poor thing gets NO USE.  I have decided to sell it.

I was prepping it for some potential buyers (they backed out) this morning and I did not like the stitch at all.  It also has a bit of a squeak when the thread goes up.  I decided to try to look inside.

There are several smal hex head screws securing the back.  There are two screws in the base that also need to be removed.  I removed them and gently pulled the thing apart.

Oh Yes, I so want to try to work on this baby.  NOT.  I tried to drop one drop of oil onto the needle bar from this angle and I oiled the presser bar as well.  Then I put the back back on.
It sews nicely now.  The stitch is definitely better.  A new needle helps.

Oh and it does say MADE IN SWEDEN somewhere in there.

It is a good machine.  I just don't use it and it needs use.  My plan is to make posters and put them up around the quilt shops locally.  I have it on Craig's List.  Last resort is Evil Bay.

  1. I can relate to not liking electric machines. I have a lovely Brother from the 1950s, but when the motor started smoking, I told my husband I wanted a treadle. I'm not likely to set that on fire! I had the Brother repaired and it works great, but it needs a new home. I brought home a Singer 66 last week and I'm working to get it and the cabinet cleaned up. Many thanks to you for your site - it's helped me identify my 66 and teach me a lot about sewing machines!

    1. You may be able to treadle that Brother. I don't mind electric machines. I just prefer treadles right now. But ask me again when I am sewing on my 201-2. I might have another opinion

  2. I so agree with you. I bought a Husqvarna #1 without the embroidery. Nice machine, but if some of the computer stuff breaks it would be too expensive to fix it. I just sent it over to my daughter since Her vintage viking 6020 is sick so she at least had something to sew on. She is expecting in October and making all kinds of fun girl baby stuff!

I really enjoy sewing on my Husqvarna Viking 6020 and an older Kenmore. I do have 2 treadles, but it has been too long since I used them. My children really enjoy treadling and I have them "sew" without thread over the lines on notebook paper. They think that is really fun!

    1. That's how I learned to treadle! Now give them some fabric and thread!

  3. There's a treadle singer in a table at the bottom of my stairs. I've never opened the table to look at it. I'm gonna though.

  4. I have a Viking SEL and it has an upper squeaking noise when the needle goes in the up position. I have had it serviced by two local dealers for this problem but after about 20 hours of sewing, it always comes back so I don't think it just need lubricating. Do you have any suggestions.
