Fait accompli

You may notice that the middle seat cushion appears to be a different color.  That is due to the nap of the fabric.  I failed to recognized the fact that there is a nap.  Hence the different appearance.  I am not at all bothered by it.  It's a dog couch, for heaven's sake.  My mother suggests that I claim that this occurred by design.

"I don't mind admitting I made a mistake.  Sometimes that happens."

"Oh, I never would," said Ingrid.  "I always claimed I meant for it to be that way."

I finished the last two back cushions in between doses of NSAIDs for the root canal aftermath.  Gosh.  It sure is sore.  Hope it feels better tomorrow.  I would like to eat something !

Now that this project is completed, I think I will clean the house.  As you may have noticed, the vacuum cleaner has been put to use.  I did, after all, have to tidy up for the photo shoot.

  1. It did turn out great! And as far as this picture is concerned; it's not noticeable at all. You just know that it's there so your eye goes right too it. Like you say, it's a dog couch, doubt if the dogs care.... ahem, and if they do notice you need to check and see if they have other decor related thoughts... use what you have that's what I say! LoL...

  2. In the car, on the way BACK to the endodontist (ARGHHH) I accidentally deleted Peg's comment. BUT not from the email. Here it is. Sorry Peg. Goes to show that you just shouldn't read email and try to post comments while riding in the car, doped up on ibuprofen, tylenol and clonazepam.

Peg has left a new comment on your post "Fait accompli":

Dog couch looks great Lizzy!!! Remember to swish out your gums with listerine or half and half H20/peroxide rinses many times a day - really helped me.

  3. Hi, I have just found your blog whilst browsing the web for sewing machine repairs. I am totally addicted to sewing and sewing machines. I shall be looking through your blog with interest. Love the dogs couch, Our two dogs ( now dead ) used to have their own place on a small bench I have in the kitchen.
I do hope your tooth gets better soon!

  4. Well, root canals can take a long time to heal. I have an excellent dentist, and it took weeks for the nerves to settle down. I thought it was never going to heal. Love the cushions, great color and style.

    1. Oh Linda, THANK YOU. I mean for the encouragement. It's just that I have to get ready for the TOGA and can't be lolligagging around . Maybe tomorrow I can get somethings done.

  5. What *I* notice is the ISMACS mag on the cocktail table. (as in: swish your mouth out with some straight bourbon!) I tend to let my ISMACS membership end; I've done it twice. And I should go write a check right now.

The couch looks great. You're there now; does that make you some kind of dog, since it's a dog couch? (Sorry, I don't have good impulse control)

    Hope you're whole soon.

    1. The dogs think I am a dog. Wrigley right now is trying to get to his spot. He has practically climbed on top of me. OK I am off to the quilt frame. Hope to sell it tomorrow. Gotta practice and get it ready.

  6. I am so impressed. My pitiful efforts at upholstery never looked so good. And your dogs have a couch. Impressed again. Mine have the bed in the sewing room. Or one of the sewing rooms. I seem to have pretty well taken over the house. I'm trying to get a root canal scheduled. Not that I want one, just need one. Yuck.

    1. OK Folks. The truth is, the dogs rule in this house. The boys have this couch and Frannie has the other. They allow us to use them once in a while. The bed is the same way. Wrigley even likes one of the easy chairs. I don't know what is wrong with me.

  7. I agree with your mum - looks like it was by design!

  8. This request is slightly off topic , but I'm working on an old treadle stand and the top was covered with ugly sticky paper (they were using it as a plant stand). I got that paper off easy enough with a little extra heat applied as I ripped off - but the disgusting sticky glue remains on the wood. What do you suggest I use to remove this mess? And perhaps on your resources page - what are your favorite products (nasty and nice) that you have in bottles and containers that you regularly use for certain SM repair and restoration projects?
I'm sure you've tried many and have rejected some, but a Favorites List (with application advice) would be very helpful.

And as you are very busy these days, I know there is probably no time to do this soon, but anytime would be great - the table top can wait ( as so many of my projects do and as my dear Mom advised "It will always be there for you, Peggy.")

  9. Acetone but use it outside so the fumes don't get to you.
I like Tuff Stuff all purpose spray foam the best right now. And Carnauba car wax. Kero and acetone 50/50 as a penetrant. PB blaster too. LW works well. Tri flow lubricant and grease. Denatured alcohol and my favorite new tool, the ultrasonic cleaner.

Right now, though my best friends are ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Which I am about to take now before I walk the very patient (ahem) dogs

  10. Best thing for glue/adhesive is oil. Desolve-it, I think is the name, is a citrus base....smells good. Also, WD-40 is good and will not hurt the wood. I used to work on new homes, and the end grain on cabinets would get ashy, (dry looking), a spritz of WD and they looked great. Plus it is primarily fish oil.

The cushions look good. Upholstery shouldn't be hard....but it really is a challenge.
