SINGER 29-2 AKA COBBLER'S SEWING MACHINE

It's missing a part which is obvious in this photo.  Would I have bought it anyway?  Who knows.  What's done is done.

The next question is when will I have time to work on it?

Where should it go in the queue?

Should I just try to pass it along?

These and the continuing adventures of a senseless addict coming soon to this blog.

  1. Belt?
    Treadle?
    Supplementary wooden extension table?

I see tension, take-up, needle, spool pin, foot. Maybe I'm missing it.

    1. Nope. Treadle stand in the barn. True, there is no supplementary table. But that's not it. But no cheating now.

  2. My next question would've been, how the heck did you carry that thing home? I almost gave myself a hernia hauling a 29k71 up my stairs. Unfortunately mine has since sat in the corner, collecting dust while the domestics consume my attention. But when I get to it, I think we'll have to start trading e-mails....

    1. It came off of its treadle stand and fit right in the back of the Jetta. And we pulled up to the shop and carried it it. Well, Steven carried in the head. WE carried in the treadle stand together. Heavy.

  3. ...and besides sewing gloves on Paff, you are soon going to be repairing saddles (on "Twine" = nickname for 29) ?? I've been attracted to how cool these machines look, but honestly, I think if I had one, it would wait for a very long time before worked on it. (or used it)

  5. Ahhh, you are missing the lube pot, designed to hold the , guessing here, beeswax, lube for the flax or linen thread that was used.
There is a square spring that acts as a thread guide.

  6. Hi I picked up one of these old machines a few years ago. Thought it was a 29-4 until I noticed some of the differences when I began a hunt for manuals and parts lists. Anyway curious about the back of your machine. Would like to compare it to mine for the purpose of evaluating completeness on mine. Trying to get better idea of what the old boy still needs. I'm also looking for a source of decals if you know of any. EBay hasn't yielded any as yet in my searches .

  7. I don't suppose your 29-2 actually had a manual? I cannot find one online and while the 29-4 manual works for some aspects I would love to have the correct manual.
