Weak Willed

For more than a year I have been trying to collect a Singer 24 chain stitch treadle.  I had promised the seller that I would buy it.  She lives nearby part time.  She was kind enough to bring the machine up to her cabin last year and I never got over to fetch it.  The last time I saw her I promised that I would get it today.

I knew that she had a White Rotary Head and "an old Singer."  I had vowed that I would not bring them home too.  Honestly, I am overwhelmed with all of my STUFF.  I recognize that the best way to handle getting rid of it, is to not bring more home.  Recognition is the first step, they say.  Acting on the realization is likely the next step.  I am weak willed.

"If you don't take them, they are going to the dump." She declared to me.  Steven was not within earshot.  That was the worst thing she could have declared.  Of course I brought them home.  WTH.

I love the little 24.  There is a manual and attachments.  I plan to put it up in the apartment where I use the quilt frame.  It will be the perfect tool for sewing the zipper leaders to quilt tops and backs before I put them on the frame.  Think how much easier it will be to remove the leader if stitched on with a chain stitch instead of a basting stitch.  I read about this somewhere, I think Cheryl Warren http://dragonpoodle.blogspot.com/ mentioned it.  I can't wait to try it.

So now I have a couple more boat anchors.  I think the 15 will clean up.  I am not a White Rotary girl.  Maybe I can find someone who will love it.

  1. I have a 15 in my treadle that looks just like that! It sews marvelously except the bobbin winder is a bit messed up. It is a real pretty machine with the scroll plate. I have been making my crumb blocks on it. I have never been able to warm up to Whites.

  3. My White it s great machine and I love using it. It was also my re-introduction to the joys of treadling and the old sewing machine.

  4. I still have my mother's White, though it's a crinkle finish. That one still has lovely decals. Surely someone will appreciate it.

  6. After learning to sew on my mom's featherweight, my next machine was gramma's singer 24 chain stitch. Such a pretty little machine - I wonder what happened to Gram's? She passed away long before I started collecting sewing machines. I also have a few old rotary Whites hanging around. And while I haven't worked with any of them yet, they must have been very good machines in their day because there are so many of them. ....So many sewing machines - so little time...

  8. I love the Singers. I also have a White Rotary head, without a treadle base. Kinda useless that way.
