Every time I went into the bathroom to be with Lola, the dogs would whine and fuss at the door. I decided that if Lola is to be a part of the family, she needs to be in the family room.
So, here she is. What you don't see is the flat screen sitting on top of the crate. Believe it, I gave up a sewing machine cabinet to make room for the crate.
Frannie whines and fusses at times. Wrigley does too. Fortunately they are relaxing a bit.
A friend suggested that I switch out their beds to mingle their scents. I read, online, to just wait until the animals ignore each other before allowing interaction. Frannie was fussing so much this morning that I just decided to give her a try with Lola
Before we moved the crate from the bathroom, I sat with Frannie and Lola
with an open crate door. Frannie approached, gingerly, almost putting
both paws in the crate, until Lola hissed. That was that. She did not
go any closer. Lola, for her part, went to sleep.
We'll see. Cat sh!t stinks. I use cedar shavings as litter but may have to re-visit that idea. I have a candle to burn when Lola evacuates her bowels. I have a piece of batting soaked in lavender oil in the top of the litter pan. Hopefully we will get these critters acclimated soon so that I can move that litter box into the bathroom.
For now, everyone is asleep
I also HATE the smell of litter boxes AND my 4 dogs unfortunately think the contents make nice appetizers AND the boxes are unsanitary. So I taught my kitties to relieve themselves outside. There's tons of info online for teaching your cat how to "do it" outside or even in your toilet!!!! Just google "teach your cat to poo outside" for tons of info.
ReplyDeleteTry something enzymatic. I tried MagicZymes (I found it at a cat show) and it was amazing. One spray and the stink was gone.
ReplyDeleteAnd now for a good laugh, check it out!

We have found that when the cats eat dry food, the poops don't stink as much. You can't do much for the pee although you could try the blue crystal stuff (in the bottom of the pan). We like Fresh Step clumping litter best.
ReplyDeleteYeah. She hasn't been eating much lately. Stressed with the move? She even declined wet food. Looks ok, though.
Deletemaybe she's realized she's not going to be tossed out in a snowbank and doesn't need to chow down everything all at once any more? At least not while her food is secure in the crate...
DeleteMaybe. But she refused dry food for two days and gobbled up the Friskees pate wet food. Me thinks she is a Queen. HAH. Maybe I should rename her Maggie Smith
DeleteThey do zero in on what they like best. Ours likes Purina indoor dry and fancy feast wet. But the dry is the primary. I talked with the vet about Blue Buffalo, but she told us that Purina is a good solid company making a good solid product.. and to save our money and go with Purina. But you may find something that works best for Lola. Like people, they are individuals and digest things as their own body can or can't. (Make sense?)
DeleteWE bought some taste of the wild dry food and mixed with some friskees wet shreds she is eating now.
DeleteAnother thing that helps the stink - don't feed them cheap dry food. The smell from ours seemed to be a bit less with a food that was not mostly grains, and had more meat content.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense. I bought Purina Kitten chow. Off to the locally owned pet store for some good stuff
DeleteThe dogs love the purina
