I am aware that texting has required the truncation of messages. Email, however, has not. I hate it when U is substituted of you, when R is substituted for are, when i is substituted for I and when people do not bother with proper punctuation.
Just sayin'.
Boy, I hope you don't mean me. I barely text. I hate pecking away with my big fingers and trying to communicate something accurately. Just pick up the phone and call I feel. My iPad has made a moron out of me because it thinks I know the words I want when I type something else and changes them. It would make me sad if I added to your pet peeve!

DeleteOh, me too, Elizabeth! One of these years people won't know how to spell properly, either, because of it. They've already done away with script handwriting in the schools.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was still teaching (at a university) I would sometimes get emails written in text-ese. Always returned them with a polite request that they be written in English!
ReplyDeleteYes! I used to get annoyed, but then I realize many people are on a mobile device which is very hard to type on. So, I don't mind so much now. I still dislike TY, for "thank you" though.

DeleteMe too and even worse. I hate all abbreviations and I don't text. But I loved the book "Feed," which is where we humans are going ...way too fast for me!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I spell all the words out when I text, too. It just isn't that hard to do. Also, people need to watch what those abbreviations mean when they text. I sent out a message when my father died. Hubby's aunt replied with an "I'm sorry. Lol!" message. WHAT?!?!? Laugh out Loud at my father's death??? A while later, I finally asked my mother in law about that text. She said they all use it as 'lots of love' and didn't know about 'laugh out loud'. I suggested that they spell words out to everyone that isn't using their personal 'text speak' since it had made me really upset. I know it's hard to type on a phone (I have fat fingers, so, I have to correct all the time). That is why I do NOT do any email on my phone. It's just not worth it.
