WHY I LOVE A SINGER 201-2

  1. You are killing me. The perfect straight stitch. If I can pass on the Kenmore 1654 and a nice Spartan in an original green case (bought because I thought I could find some kids who wanted to learn to sew), hubby says I can bring a 201 home. Ah, the perfect straight stitch, music to my eyes.

  2. And the tension knob is on the front.

  3. I've got one I've been hoarding until I learn to re-wire. But I saw a nicely-wired one in the thrift shop today for $100, which is way over my usual self-imposed spending limit of $35. What's a sewing-machine-obsessed girl to do???

    1. Re-wire the motor. If I an do it, you certainly can. Just practice soldering. That's all it will take. And follow this: http://vssmb.blogspot.com/2012/01/complete-how-to-re-wire-potted-motor.html

  4. I've been following you for a while for your love of vintage kenmores- I've had two now. I gave one to the drama department of the local high school and providence smiled on me promptly, sending me a free 201-2. I did rewire it with that fabulous tutorial you just gave a link to, and we are going to be very happy together. There is still some 20 year old dirt here and there in her and she's crying for oiling, but I tried the stitches.....all true.
