It has been a whole month since I last bought a sewing machine. Yesterday I fetched this Singer 403. I have a 401 and a 404. Now I have a 403. That means I have all of that series. It has no attachments or cams, maybe I will find some, maybe I won't . I can't wait to get her oiled and cleaned up.
The motor sounds strong, though it did protest a little a first, once running it was FAST. The levers move easily and I love the look. Did I mention that I learned to sew on a 401? I just love this style.
Your mother's 401 perhaps? Me too!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago I went back to the town I grew up in after being gone for many years. One of the things I wanted to do was sew on my mom's 401A. Unfortunately, my mom rarely sews and never oils it. . . it was a much better sewing experience in memory. . .
Yes, it was Mom's 401. The needle position is off center, unfortunately. It sews fine, just a bit off center BUT I will take it with me to Ray White's class and fix it.
